Ronald “Ron” Mayberry

Ronald “Ron” L. Mayberry, age 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Dycora Transitional Health in Beaver Dam, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Ron was born January 8, 1944, in Beaver Dam, to Clifford and Agnes (Welch) Mayberry. He was a Beaver Dam High School graduate where he was also Prom King. Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army before his honorable discharge in 1971. In 1966 while serving in Vietnam, he received a Purple Heart for combat wounds and a Bronze Star with “V” Device for heroism. After his military service, Ron married Jeanne Galston on November 11, 1972. Together they raised four children and fostered 21, adopting one of their foster daughters. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Beaver Dam. He was a John Deere retiree. Ron had many admirable qualities with his kindness being at the top. He was an avid Packers fan and golfer, having won the City of Beaver Dam golf tournament and he liked bowling. Ron is survived by his step-daughter, Tonya Oppermann (Beaver Dam); adopted daughter, Kristin Mayberry (Fond du Lac); sister, Phyllis (Lawrence) Schmidt; brother, Bob (Lois) Mayberry; grandchildren, Brandon Lueptow, Brittni Davis, Tanner Lueptow, Jasmyne Jenson, Jeremy Mayberry and Tre Mayberry; great-granddaughters Baylee Sheppard, Brylee Quiring, Alayna and Jayden; brothers-in-law Bernard (Dinah), Gerald, Dennis, David (Alvina) and Allan (Lori) Galston; sisters-in-law Joy (Bernard) Vander Sanden and Marie Galston; and is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; father and mother-in-law Herbert and Lila Galston; son Shawn; step-son Donald Lueptow; brother-in-infancy Raymond Mayberry; sister Janet (Victor) Heimrl; three brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law-in-infancy. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3rd at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Chris Davis officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146, following the service. Inurnment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Columbus at noon on Friday, January 4th. A special thank you to the many caregivers Ron had at Dycora Transitional Health and to his Hillside Hospice nurse, Debbie, who was also Ron’s wife Jeanne’s hospice nurse. If desired, memorials may be made in Ronald L. Mayberry’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
