Roy E. Erickson

Roy E. Erickson, age 84, of Beaver Dam, passed away on April 4, 2019 at Randolph Health Services. There will be a memorial gathering for Roy at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jason Wood officiating. Roy was born the son of Edward and Sigrid (Johnson) Erickson on January 19th, 1935 in the city of Clintonville. He graduated from Clintonville High School in 1953 and went into the Marine Corp with several friends. He spent two years in Japan and Korea. He then went on to Whitewater University and graduated with a business education degree in 1960. In 1958 he married his wife, Diane, together they began their journey through life’s ups and downs. At the age of 40 he joined the army reserves and became a drill sergeant for 20 years. He enjoyed being active and kept on a good fitness program throughout his life. In the 1960s, he acquired his pilot’s license and found joy in flying. Roy was a bank examiner out of Wausau, WI for 10 years before moving to Beaver Dam to become the City Finance Director. He retired from that position in 1996. In his retirement, he enjoyed driving bus for UMOS (United Migrant Opportunity Services) as well as, the school district of Beaver Dam, learning Spanish and driving semi-trucks out of Columbus. Roy had a quick wit and joked with all he knew. Roy is survived by his wife, Diane, of 60 years; his children, Scott (Linda), Leif (Margaret), and Dana Lynn; brother, Earl Erickson of Colorado; five grandchildren, Sarah, Shelby and Dustin (Christine) Erickson, Johanna and Brooke Gulke; two step-children, Matthew (Martha) and Kelly Merrell; great grandchildren, Micquel and Jakob; step-great grandchildren, Haley, Mason, Sophia, Harper and Cooper; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sandra; and sister-in-law, Carole.
