Russell L. Winn, age 87, passed away on May 26, 2016 at the Golden LivingCenter in Beaver Dam, where he has been receiving exceptional care for the past two years. Russell Lawrence Winn was born in Waukesha on November 12, 1928 to Eldyn and Mildred (Hollinger) Winn. After high school, Russ enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a shipboard machinist and fireman from November 1945 until November 1947. Russ enjoyed talking about his travels to many ports around the world and his time in the Navy serving his country. A majority of his working life was with the U.S. Postal Service. Russ began his postal service career as a clerk in Beaver Dam for 17 years before transferring to Hollywood, Florida in 1973. With a lot of hard work, training, and dedication Russ soon advanced to the level of office superintendent; and, in 1980 Russ was appointed as the Postmaster of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Russ was well respected in the community and his many employees enjoyed working for him. Russ retired from the Postal Service in 1989 with more than 35 years of service and moved back to Wisconsin, first in Oconomowoc and then in Beaver Dam. Russ loved to hunt ducks, grouse, and deer; and, to fish, particularly walleyes and trout. He was an exceptional fisherman, with the uncanny ability to purposefully catch whatever he decided to catch. Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Beaver Dam; his long-time hunting/fishing partner and step-son, Randy (Nancy) Wichinski of Brookfield; his step-son Richard (Cassandra) Wichinski of Wauwatosa; four grandchildren; and, three great grandchildren. Russ was preceded in death by his parents; and, two brothers Donald and Kenneth. A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater, WI.
