Russell P. Brown

Russell Peter Brown, age 86, beloved husband of Joan Brown and resident of Hartford, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025 at Charter Senior Living of Hasmer Lake, Jackson, WI surrounded by his loving family.

Russell was born and raised in Mayville, WI and is preceded in death by his parents Percy and Norma Brown and sister Susie Schaeffer.

Russell was born on September 26, 1938 in Mayville, WI.  He was a graduate of Mayville High School in 1957.  After High School, Russell enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country from 1957-1961.  He was in the United States Navy Band proudly playing his trombone.

Russell was united in marriage to his loving wife Joan (Nimm) Brown on June 14, 1969 at St. Bernard’s Church in Watertown, WI.  The couple was blessed with over 56 years of marriage.

He was a teacher for most of his life in the Mayville Public School District. He loved teaching, especially his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed flying small planes, ham radios, coaching tennis lessons, and volunteering time at the EAA in Oshkosh, WI.

Russell had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed being with family and friends.

Russell is survived by his wife Joan; his children Russell Brown, Jr. of DePere, WI and Mary (DuWayne) Hanisko of Hartford, WI; his 5 grandchildren: Owen, Ethan, Hannah, Ava & Keegan.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 3 p.m. until the time of the celebration of life at 4 p.m. Rev. Fr. Mark Brandl will officiate. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home conducted by the Mayville American Legion Post #69. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery in Mayville.
