Ruth Roebke

Ruth Roebke, only one week shy of her 91st birthday, died Friday, June 1, 2018 at her home in Beaver Dam. Visitation for Ruth will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Funeral service will follow at church on Wednesday beginning at 12:00 noon with Rev. Rick Lund officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam. Ruth was born on June 8, 1927 in Beloit, Wisconsin to George “Irvin” and Lulla (nee Johnson) Real. On May 7, 1955, she was united in marriage with Roger Roebke in Beloit. They moved to Beaver Dam in 1959 where Ruth worked for Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator for 17 years. After raising her family, Ruth returned to work as a switchboard operator at Beaver Dam Community Hospital until her retirement in 1997. Ruth found joy in time spent with her family and in her service to the church and her community. She was active in the Telephone Pioneers. She was active in the choir, Ladies Aid, Retirees, and served regularly as a communion assistant at First Lutheran Church. She also gave communion to shut-ins and visited with residents, as well as, assisted with activities at the nursing homes in town. She volunteered at the Beaver Dam Red Cross Blood Drives for many years and was frustrated she missed, for the first time in years, helping with a blood drive in December of 2017. In addition, Ruth served the Beaver Dam Girl Scouts in many capacities for over 50 years. Ruth was a true servant of God. She will be sorely missed by family, friends, and those she served throughout her life. Ruth is survived by her three children, Richard Roebke (Teresa McIntosh) of Seattle, WA, Ruthann (Jim) Cutting of Lomira, and Rebecca (Tom) McMillan of Hartford; five grandchildren, Emily (Jacob) Clevenstine of Sun Prairie, Kelly and Karly McMillan of Hartford, Chance Roebke of Suquamish, WA, and Michael Roebke of Los Angeles, CA; three great grandchildren, Scarlet, Easton, and Beckett Clevenstine; two sisters, Nancy (Darrell) Risseeuw of Beloit and Donna Alf of Evansville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in 1999; her grandson, Erik Baxter; and her six brothers. If desired, memorials may be made in Ruth Roebke’s name to Agrace Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, Beaver Dam Girl Scouts, or First Ev. Lutheran Church Choir.
