Susan A. Stanke, age 62, of Beaver Dam and Mayville, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 following a long and courageous battle with diabetes at the Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac surrounded by her family.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, May 10, 2007 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the funeral home on Thursday, beginning at 12:00 Noon. John R. Leiting will be the celebrant.
The former Susan Ann Fina was born on June 24, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Kenneth J. and LaVerne M. (Nalapinski) Fina. She attended high school in both Milwaukee and Beaver Dam. In August of 1987, Susan was united in marriage with Bill Stanke in Juneau. Susan held a variety of jobs throughout her life. She owned and operated Jake”s Pizza in the Adams-Friendship area, she worked as a dispatcher at the Horicon Police Department, and she was a guard at the Waupun Prison. She was also active in the medical field throughout her life. Sue worked as an industrial nurse at Stokely Van Camp in Columbus, taught first-aid at Moraine Park Technical College, and served as a Red Cross volunteer. She was a member of the Mayville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she was a past president.
Survivors include husband, Bill Stanke of Mayville, her daughter, Julie Fabisch (Chris Stavropolus) of Beaver Dam, two grandchildren, Travis Fabisch and Zachariah Nehmer, her step-son, Warren (Dee Dee) Stanke of Theresa, aunts, uncle, other relatives and friends. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jeffrey Fabisch.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Susan A. Stanke”s name to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131.
