With heavy hearts we share the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandpa “Papa”. Walter F. Zastrow Jr., 72, of Mayville, Wisconsin passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI.
A visitation for Walter will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Mayville. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Joshua Frazee and Rev. Allen Behnke officiating. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery in Mayville. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by Mayville American Legion Post #69.
Walter was born on May 5, 1952 the son of Walter F. and Elvira (Justman) Zastrow in Fond du Lac. Walter was a graduate of Mayville High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. On November 2, 1974, he was united in marriage with Bonita J. Finke at St. John Lutheran Church.
Walter had been employed at Seneca Foods and after retirement had been a SSM security guard. He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on small engines. Above all, family was most important to Walter. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved taking them to the candy store.
Walter will be deeply missed by his wife Bonita; his daughters: Janell (William) Krapfl and Jenny (Travis Helser) Puls; grandchildren: Kaden, Kamryn, Sawyer, Brinley, Beckett, Austin and Kenley; his brothers Roy Zastrow and Wayne (Cindy) Zastrow and sister Lillie (Scott) Pruden; his in laws: Betty Miller, Emily (Roy) Rassmann, Loris Schaefer, Judy (Ron) Bastian, Marilyn Finke, Leon (Marge) Finke, Roland Finke and Donald (Donna) Finke. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother David and in laws: Vilas Miller, Jerry Schaefer, Lois Finke, Bob Finke, Joy Finke and Richard Finke.
Memorial donations in Walter’s name may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in Mayville.
