Services: Funeral Service for Wilbert will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Church United Methodist in Beaver Dam
Visitation: Visitation will be held at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, Feb. 26th from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaver Dam.
Wilbert C. Koerner passed away peacefully on February 22, 2011 at the UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, at the age of 85, surrounded with his loving family.
Funeral Service for Wilbert will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Church United Methodist in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Jeff Nicholas officiating. Visitation will be held at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Beaver Dam American Legion Post # 146 will meet at 6:00 at Koepsell Funeral Home to pay their respects. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, Feb. 26th from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaver Dam. Interment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Beaver Dam American Legion Post # 146.
Wilbert was born to William and Clara (Neitzel) Koerner near Burnett on August 13, 1925. Wilbert married Myrtle Marie Wagner of Beaver Dam on May 30, 1948. Together they nurtured and raised four children until the untimely death of Myrtle on January 13, 1980. On June 20, 1981 Wilbert married Gladys Kooiman of Waupun, Wisconsin.
Wilbert served his country in the United States Army in World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in the European Theater. He was a member of the Beaver Dam American Legion John E. Miller Post # 146. Wilbert was employed for forty years at Metalfab in Beaver Dam, and also was a dairy farmer. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. In later years, he was an active volunteer for church and also volunteered at Hillside Manor.
Wilbert is survived by his four children: Karen (Dan) Smith of Lake Geneva, Kristine Koerner of Waupun, George Koerner of Beaver Dam and Richard Koerner of Davenport, Iowa. He is also survived by eight step-children: Linda (Dave) Pollesch of Kingston, Emily Terpstra of Waupun, Mari (Roger) Kuhnle of Oxford, Mississippi, Judy (David) Van Swol of Racine, Howie (Sandy) Kooiman of Waupun, Merlin (Laurie) Kooiman of Fort Collins, Colorado, David (Evonne) Kooiman of Brandon, and Jerry (Maribeth) Kooiman of Grand Rapids, Michigan
Wilbert is further survived by three grandchildren, 22 step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and 11 step great-grandchildren; his brother Kenneth Koerner; also nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Wilbert is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Myrtle Koerner and his second wife, Gladys Koerner and his sister, Margaret Schumacher Goss.
