Willard M. Simonis

March 30, 1918 - April 16, 2007

Willard B. Simonis, age 89, of Beaver Dam, died on Monday, April 16, 2007 at the Beaver Dam Community Hospital.

Friends may call at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. At 10:30 AM, the Beaver Dam American Legion Post #146 will conduct military honors at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 127 West Maple Avenue, in Beaver Dam, beginning at 11:00 AM. Fr. John Schreiter will officiate. A private burial will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Willard B. Simonis was born on March 30, 1918 in the Town of Alban, Portage County, Wisconsin, to the late Fred and Florence (Marzella) Simonis. He served in the United States Army for four years during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. On December 1, 1956, Willard was united in marriage with Ruth Janzer in Milwaukee. He worked in the shipping and receiving department at Briggs and Stratton in Milwaukee for 37 years before retiring in 1983. In February of 1989, Willard and Ruth moved to Beaver Dam. He was everybody”s “best friend” in the neighborhood – always ready to repair someone”s snow blower or mow someone”s lawn. He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, now known as St. Katharine Drexel Parish.

Willard is survived by his daughter; Barbara (Craig) Johnson, De Pere, WI his son Jeffrey Simonis (fiancee, Dr. Carla Johnson), Traverse City, Michigan, two granddaughters; Daina Belfeuil of Green Bay and Autumn Simonis of Traverse City, Michigan, three great grandchildren, a sister; Virginia (Jerry) Merkel, Winthrop Harbor, IL, a sister-in-law Jeanette Simonis of Beaver Dam, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, on December 8, 1991, four sisters; Caroline Peskie, Winifred Guyant, Theresa Omernick, and Esther Groshek, three brothers; Herman, Arnold, and Robert Simonis

The Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam is serving the family.

She never felt sorry for herself, she always had a smile and would ask about how you were even though she was going through alot these last 9 monthes.
