Alfred “Al” Raymond Bork, age 85, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, of natural causes. Alfred “Al” Raymond Bork, age 85, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, of natural causes.
Visitation for Al will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will also be a visitation at St. Katharine Drexel Church in Beaver Dam on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Carlos Zapata officiating. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery.
Al was born July 10, 1938 in the farm township of Fountain Prairie, Wis., to parents Otto and Anita (Woltman) Bork. He grew up learning in a one-room schoolhouse with the same teacher for eight years. He graduated from Fall River High School in 1956. After high school, Al served in the U.S. Army with his three older brothers. He served during the Berlin and Cuban Missile Crisis. He was stationed in Kirchhain, Germany with the 3rd Armored Division. He was part of the elite Davy Crockett’s Unit and was honorably discharged from service with a rank of E-5 sergeant.
Al married Rita Anne Bashynski on Dec. 30, 1961 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Along with being a loving husband and father, he was a 50-plus year member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, building hospitals, schools and other projects throughout his career.
His hobbies included building cabinets and furniture, deer hunting and fishing. He later developed a passion for wine-making. He also loved sports, particularly cheering on the Badgers, Packers and Brewers. He also relished spending time with his grandkids, whether it was attending their sporting events or family activities.
He is survived by two children, Jilleine (Timothy) Baker of Columbus, Wis., and Corey (Kira) Bork of Bloomington, Minn.; grandchildren, Bryant (Angie), Jesslynn (Max), Michaela (Gage), Connor and Morgan; and two great grandchildren, Myles and Riley; a sister, Evelyn; and many nieces and nephews. He is joined in eternal life by his beloved wife Rita; parents; infant son Joseph; brothers Harold, William and Rueben; sisters Marguerite and Ruth; and many wonderful brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Memorials may be made in Alfred R. Bork’s name to St. Katharine Drexel Parish.
