Alice Barnes, age 91, died on Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Columbus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Friends and family may gather for a visitation on Friday, September 28, 2007 at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 127 West Maple Avenue, from 10:00 AM until the time of service. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at the Church, at 11:00 AM. Fr. Carlos Florez will be officiating. Burial will be held at St. Peter”s Cemetery following the service.
The former Alice Hickey, was born on October 28, 1915 to the late George and Eleanor (Schuman) Hickey, in Rolling Prairie, Wisconsin. She was a 1934 graduate of Beaver Dam High School and also attended Mrs. Brown”s School of Business in Milwaukee. On November 4, 1943, she was united in marriage with Jerome G. Barnes in Beaver Dam. She was a life-long resident of the Beaver Dam area but in later years, Alice and her husband bought a home in Tequesta, Florida where they would spend their winters. Alice enjoyed reading and was a member of Old Hickory Golf Club. She was also a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish and a supporter of the Dodge County Humane Society.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by her daughter, Mary (John) Myers of West Carrollton, OH, her step-grandchildren, John (Cindy) Myers and Michelle (Eric) Schafner, both of Dayton, OH, three great grandchildren, her niece, Sarah (William) Conroy of Vero Beach, FL, her nephew, Daniel McKinley of Madison, her great nephew and niece, John (Michelle) Conroy of Oak Park, IL and Molly Conroy of New York, NY, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerome, her two sisters, Lucille Cullen and Ellen Hickey and a niece, Shelagh Cullen-McKinley.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Alice Barnes” name to Dodge County Humane Society, 210 Stoddart Street, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin 53916 or to a charity of ones choice.
