On May 6th, 1929, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the Lord blessed Frank and Lydia Stegner with the gift of their only daughter, Alice Mae Stegner. Shortly after, Alice was received into the family of God through the washing of Holy Baptism at First Lutheran Church.
Frank and Lydia farmed near South Beaver Dam, WI where Alice grew up with her younger brothers, George and John. Alice was confirmed in her faith on October 17th, 1941 at First Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1947.
Alice was joined in marriage to Warren Strassburg on August 20th, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. They purchased a farm near Watertown, WI. Here the Lord blessed them with 3 boys, Randall, Michael, and Steven. After a few years, on the farm, Alice went to work as an operator for Bell Telephone. She continued to work for the phone company for 37 years although her job and office location changed many times through the years. An implement business in Hustisford, WI was purchased by the family. This necessitated a move, and the family joined Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford. Here Alice served the Lord in the Ladies’ groups in the church in between her work and family schedules.
Alice and Warren had been blessed to have been married for over 76 years. The Lord had given them the opportunity to be able travel around this country along with taking many trips to Europe. Whenever the opportunity arose, they would attend polka dances wherever they were. Alice enjoyed entertaining family and friends whether during the holidays or weekly card parties. For the last 28 years she was able to split her time between their home in Hustisford and their home in Scottsdale, AZ.
Alice passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024. She is now enjoying the company of her husband, Warren, and her eldest son, Randall, who preceded her in death. Alice made a promise to keep Warren around until he was 100 years old. She kept that promise as Warren was 100+ years old when he passed away this past October. They are now sharing in their heavenly goal along with all the saints.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 7th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford, WI. The visitation will begin at 1:00pm with the funeral service to start at 2:00pm. Committal will be after the service for both Warren and Alice at the Hustisford Cemetery. There will be a lunch served after the committal in Bethany School Gym.
Memorials can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or School, Salem Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, AZ, Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School, Lakeside Lutheran High School, Shoreland Lutheran High School, or Arizona Lutheran Academy.
We have many, many fond memories of Warren and Alice from our years serving Bethany in Hustisford. They were wonderful neighbors and treated our young children like grandchildren. We shared the same wedding anniversary and often placed flowers on the church altar together. We rejoice that they are now together in heaven with their Lord and Savior! We are currently out of the country and regret that we will not be able to attend the service. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Heaven is our home!
I truly believe Jesus welcomed Alice with open arms!!! And… she was smiling!
