Alyce Raycia Wurtz, age 90, was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, May 27,2025.
Alyce was born on February 7, 1935, in Fond du Lac to Herbert and Alice (Steinberg) Kloeden. She graduated from Mayville High School in 1953. Alyce obtained her LPN license from Kenosha Technical School (now Gateway Technical College) as the Valedictorian of her nursing class in 1955 and returned to Mayville to work for Dr. Francis “Toddy” Bachhuber, and later his son, Dr. Mike Bachhuber, until she retired in 1990. She was also the bookkeeper for Wurtz Refrigeration and Wurtz Specialty Ice Company. In 1992, she and her husband Gene opened Treasure Trove Antiques in Mayville.
On October 1, 1955, Alyce married the love of her life Gene Wurtz at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Together, they were blessed with 2 children, 2 grandchildren, 3 beautiful great-granddaughters. Family was always very important to Alyce and many birthdays, holidays, and just regular days were spent around the kitchen table laughing and sharing stories of her adventure and her younger days.
Alyce belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Mayville for 82 years, where she held many offices, including President of the Auxiliary for multiple terms. Alyce and Gene traveled to many National Legion conventions throughout the country. Their love of travel also included many vacations in Jamaica and Canada, as well as many trips across the United States with their family.
Her passion for Mayville and its history naturally led her to the Mayville Historical Society where she held many positions including Treasurer and President of the Society. Alyce could be found on many Tuesdays and Thursdays volunteering as a guide in the Historical Museum on German Street. Alyce loved to play cards with family and friends. She also enjoyed watching her beloved Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks. Her family all knew better than to call her during a game, or to disturb her while Wheel of Fortune was on Tv after dinner. Alyce also loved her gardens and the beauty of her birds in her backyard.
Alyce leaves behind her 2 children-daughter Debra (Paul) Wegner of Sturgeon Bay and son David (Tina)Wurtz of Waterford; 2 grandchildren- Elizabeth (Daniel) Chatham and Christopher (Amanda) Wegner, and 3 beautiful great granddaughters-Isabella and Sophia Chatham and Julia Wegner. She is also survived by a special foster brother-Charles (Patricia) Knutson of Arizona and her cousin Richard (Sharon) Steinberg of Horicon. She was devoted to her family, a cherished wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten by her family and friends.
Alyce was preceded in death and will be reunited with her husband Gene, and her mother and father, and many other family and friends.
Friends may pay their respects on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mayville. Alyce will be sent to her eternal home with a memorial service at St. Paul’s at 11:00am with Rev. Traci Maass officiating. A private family burial will follow at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Beaver Dam and the staff of SSM Hospice. All of you have shown such care, respect, and compassion for Mom, as well as for us, over the past 6 years. There are definitely angels walking on earth.

So sorry to read of Alyce's passing. We were coworkers for Dr. Mike as well as being good friends and had many good visits together. My sympathy to all the family.
