Andrew J. Harmon, (“Andy”) age 50, of Columbus passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 17, 2022.
Andy was born on October 1, 1972 in Fayetteville, NC to James “Jimmy” and Sally (Baden) Harmon. He received his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), where he also competed as a NCAA swimmer excelling at the 200 freestyle and the butterfly stroke. While at Virginia Tech, Andy served in the Corps of Cadets and later commissioned in the U.S. Army as an officer in the 3rd Infantry Division. He was later U.S. Army Ranger Certified. Following active duty, he transferred to the Army National Guard. His military career spanned over twenty years. He was married to Meredith Moore on August 31, 2002 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, IN. Andy was employed as Director of Radio and Networking at US Cellular in Madison.
As a kid, when anyone asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, Andy said “a dad”. And of all his many accomplishments, his family is what he is most proud of.
Andy is survived by his wife Meredith; three children: Parker, John, and June; his mother Sally Kenavan; two sisters: Catie Barker and Tracy Ormsby; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
A visitation will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 413 S. 2nd St., Watertown, WI on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. A Celebration of Life and Eucharist will immediately follow at the church with the Rev. Monica Burkert-Brist officiating. Military honors will be conducted following the service at the church along with a reception hosted by friends and family.
A memorial fund has been established at St Paul’s Episcopal Church for the Harmon Family to support future youth scholarships and for the benefit of the Harmon children. Please make contributions payable to St Paul’s Episcopal Church with a notation “Harmon Family Fund”.
