Barbara Elizabeth Kerchoff, age 82, of Iron Ridge (formerly of Mayville, Germantown, Menomonee Falls, & Milwaukee) passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Kathy Hospice in West Bend, WI.
Barbara was born on April 11, 1940, in Aniwa, WI, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Muhs) Tautges.
When Barbara first moved to Milwaukee after high school, she worked for Wisconsin Bell as a telephone operator, and then later worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a telephone operator and information desk representative, and then later worked as a secretary for the Housekeeping and Security Departments for nearly 40 years.
Barbara had a very strong faith, which she passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Barbara truly enjoyed spending time with her immediate and extended family, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and volunteering at Bethesda Thrift Shop in Horicon, WI, after retiring from St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Douglas) Lane; and by her sons, Gregory (Renee) Nissen and Daniel (Laura) Nissen; and by her nine grandchildren: Kevin, Kaitlyn, Arin, Amber, Emilee, Quinton, Brittney, Kyle, & Nathan; and her seven great grandchildren: Braeden, Gunner, Chester, Kyla, Silver, Matthew, and Sage. Barbara is further survived by her two sisters, Frances Benes, Antigo, and Mary Ann (Raymond) Bonk, New Berlin; and brother, David Tautges, Seal Beach, CA; and sister-in-law, Marcie Tautges, Appleton, WI, as well as her nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her second husband Robert Kerchoff, her son Stephen Matthew Nissen, her first husband Ronald Nissen, and her brothers, August (Joan) Tautges, and Paul (Marcie) Tautges; sisters, Genevieve (Eric) Fischer, Agnes Tautges; and two brothers in infancy, Robert and Edward.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, W3081 Hwy Y, LeRoy, WI, from 11 am – 12 noon. A traditional Requiem Mass of Catholic burial will be celebrated at 12 noon. Reverend Father Joseph Dominic will preside. A luncheon/celebration of Barbara’s life will immediately follow Mass and will be held in St. Andrew’s Parish Center on the premises.
Entombment service will take place at Resurrection Mausoleum.
