Bernice B. Metke

Bernice B. Metke, 93, formerly of Mayville passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Hope Senior Living in Lomira.

Bernice was born on April 4, 1932 the 9th of 13 children to Edmund and Augusta (Maske) Retzlaff.  She was united in marriage with Virgil Metke on May 15, 1954 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in the township of Herman.  Together they celebrated 64 years together until Virgil’s passing in 2018.  Bernice and her husband Virgil farmed together in the town of Williamstown for many years.

She was a faithful and active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Kekoskee, she had been member of the altar guild, janitor and enjoyed being the Summer School Picnic cook.  Bernice loved baking, flower gardening and enjoyed being in the kitchen.  Above all and most important to Bernice was her family and she treasured the times spent together.

Bernice is survived by her daughters Barbara (Jim) Levinson and Connie (Ron) Wesener both of Mayville; her son Ron (Rose) Metke of West Bend.   She is further survived by 8 grandchildren: Jennifer (Craig) Zoellick, Tony (Amber) Levinson, Brian Metke, Brooke Frehse, Rachel (Lee) Wangberg, Renae Metke, Jessica Wesener and Randy (Beth) Wesener; 11 great grandchildren: Weston (Kayla) Werner, Treyton and Tricity Levinson, Hazel and Isaac Metke, Mac and Kal Frehse, Lincoln, Charlotte, and Lyla Wangberg and Ryan Wesener and one great great grandson Wyatt Werner. She is further survived by her sister Marion Zuehlke and sisters-in-law: Bonnie Retzlaff and Carol Frankwick.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil, parents, her parents-in-law: Edwin and Martha Metke, 8 brothers: Arnold, Milton, Eddy, Aaron, Marvin, Melvin, Vernon and Robert; three sisters: Erna Ehlers, Eleanor Voight and Marlene Beistle.

A visitation for Bernice will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon at the Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville.  A funeral service will begin at Noon with Rev. William Carter officiating.  Interment will follow at Kekoskee Cemetery.

Memorial donations in Bernice’s name may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Kekoskee, Wisconsin.
