Betty J. Rahn

Betty J. Rahn, 88, of Beaver Dam passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam. A visitation for Betty will be held on Thursday, March 17th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Road, Beaver Dam, and also on Friday, March 18th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. at First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Mark Jensen officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in the township of Trenton. Betty Jane was born on Feb. 5, 1928 the first daughter of Herman and Margaret (Schultz) Berg in the township of Hubbard. Betty was baptized and confirmed in Burnett by Rev. Alfred Wittman. She was a 1946 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. On May 18, 1947, she was united in marriage to Earl F. Rahn at First Ev. Lutheran Church also by Rev. Wittman. Betty farmed with her husband Earl in the Randolph, Burnett, Brandon and Beaver Dam areas. She and Earl helped to organize the “Swingin Beavers” Square Dance Club. She also designed the club pin. Both Betty and Earl were very active in square dancing throughout the State for many years. She was a charter member of the Evening Belles Homemakers Club of Dodge County. She also was a member of the home testing institute for over 30 years. Besides being a homemaker and farmer she had worked at Weyenberg Shoe Factory and canning companies in the area, including the time when prisoners of war worked at the Beaver Dam Green Giant Company. Betty had also had a pen pal, Hannah Beatt from Taunton, England for over 70 years. Their friendship began when they were both in high school and Hannah had even visited the United States twice. Betty was a member of First Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and had held offices. She also belonged to the Retirees group of the church and had been involved in 4-H. She also enjoyed flower gardening, crafts and writing poems. Betty is survived by her daughters: Marleen Rahn and Beverly (Robert) Ganz both of Beaver Dam; two grandchildren: Vaughn Haase and Keith Indermuehle; her sister Karen Radke of Colorado; her pen pal and dear friend Hannah Beatt; her lifelong friend Pat Braker and her church befriender Ruth Roebke . She is further survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl in 1997, her son Randall Lee in 1978 and her sister Marjorie Huber.. Memorial donation may be directed to First Ev.
