Charlene M. Kikkert, 86, of Beaver Dam passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 2, 2017. A funeral service for Charlene will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home, N7199 N. Crystal Lake Rd., Beaver Dam with the Rev. Chris Davis officiating. A visitation will also be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6th from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Beaver Dam American Legion to pay their respects at 10:30 a.m. Military honors will be conducted by the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 of Beaver Dam immediately following the funeral at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Highland Memory Gardens in the town of Trenton. Charlene was born on December 17, 1930 to Jacob and Dottie (Davis) Mahanes in Highland County, Ohio. She enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1953. Charlene was united in marriage with Elmer Kikkert on May 29, 1953 in Aurora, Colorado at the Fitzsimons Army Base Chapel. She worked as a bookkeeper at Educator’s Progress Service in Randolph for 32 years. After retirement, Charlene worked part-time at Pick & Save for two years and also at Head Start. She was a member of the American Legion and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she was active with the Ladies Circle. Charlene is survived by her children, Edwin (Joy) Kikkert of Beaver Dam, Robert (Lynda) Kikkert of Charles City, VA, and Gail Kastein of Beaver Dam; her grandchildren, Scott (Caroline) Kikkert, Adam (Brandi) Kikkert, Tony (Becky) Kikkert, Zachary (Felicia) Kastein, Erika Kastein, Trevor Kastein, and Jeremy Kastein; 11 great-grandchildren, her special friend Alice Klarkowski of Beaver Dam; and further survived by other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, her son Gary Wayne, her parents, brothers, Oren Dallas, Walter, and Earnest; and sisters, Ona Hannah, Dorothy Hazel Green, Hazel Cox, Donna Sears, Mabel Mahanes and Anna Ruth Rigdon.
