Clarence S. Cigelske

Clarence “Skelly” Cigelske, age 88, of Beaver Dam, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Ellen and Peter Johnson Hospice Center in Madison.

Friends and family may call at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, July 13, 2007 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The American Legion will conduct a prayer service at 6:00 PM and the rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 S. Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Bill Key will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Peter”s Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin where the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 in Beaver Dam will conduct military honors.

Clarence was born on February 11, 1919 in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin to the late Henry and Mary (Kastenmeier) Cigelske. He graduated from St. Peter”s Catholic School with the Class of 1934 and attended Beaver Dam High School. Clarence worked for Weyenberg Shoe Company until he was inducted into the United States Army on March 19, 1941. He served as a Staff Sergeant in Europe, Africa and the Middle East and received the Silver Star. After being discharged from the Army on November 24, 1945, Clarence worked at Malleable Iron Range, MetalFab and Kraft Foods. In 1981, he retired from Kraft after 24 years of employment. On November 19, 1983, Clarence was united in marriage with Barbara Zahn Jacobs. Clarence was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, the Knights of Columbus Pope John XXII Council 1837 in Beaver Dam and a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Msgr. Theodore Rohner General Assembly. He was also a member of the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 in Beaver Dam and the International Order of the Odd Fellows. Skelly was an active member of these organizations and spent many hours volunteering.

Survivors include his step-daughter, Janelle Guse of Beaver Dam, a step-grandson, Kelly (Kim) Guse Brownsville, two step great granddaughters, Meagan and Marissa Guse, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son-in-law, Robert Guse, a brother, Albert Cigelske, and four sisters, Annette Lischka, Esther Burchardt, Angeline Noll, and Lucille Arndt.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Clarence Cigelske”s name to the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146.

Wow what a life Leland had. So fulfilling. I know my Mother Shirley Roznos looked up to Leland all her life. She loved him so. We will miss him dearly. Love Candice and Family.

As a kid I remember seeing "Skelly" around quite a bit and remember thinking how much fun he was. He socialized with my dad and mom,Carl "Spike" and Edith Cigelske. He and dad must have been cousins. I did not know him well, but have fond memories. Just want to say I am so sorry for your loss. If only we could keep turning the clock back to happier times. My thoughts are with you.
