Claudette Agnes Gassner, age 91, of Mayville, passed away at her home on Friday, April 3, 2026.
In honoring Claudette’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held. Inurnment will take place at Graceland Cemetery.
Claudette was born on February 25, 1935, in Mayville to Ervin and Audrey (Hurlbert) Giese. She graduated from Mayville High School in 1953. Claudette was united in marriage to James B. Gassner on June 8, 1957, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy.
Claudette was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Mayville. She was employed for 10 years as secretary at Maysteel Corp., and 29 years at Mayville High School. Claudette retired in 1997 from Mayville High School.
Claudette enjoyed going on vacation with her family and trips to the casino. She loved watching the Milwaukee Brewers, but nothing brought her as much joy as when she was watching her grandson’s sporting events. Claudette’s greatest love was all of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Claudette is survived by her husband James; her children: Brenda (Scott) Hug and Brian (Karen) Gassner; grandchildren: Zachary (Nicole) Hug, Derek (Taylor) Hug, Bryce Gassner, and Brent (Emily) Gassner; great- grandchildren: Stella Hug, Isabelle Hug, Collin Hug, and Cora Hug; siblings-in-law: Gerald (Ruth) Gassner and Sylvester (Carol) Gassner. Claudette is dearly missed and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Claudette was preceded in death by her parents; her great-grandchild Rory Hug, her sister Ardis Sterr; brothers-in-law: Jim Kobishop, Florian Sterr, Roman Gassner, and Roger Gassner; sister-in-law: Marilyn Gassner; and aunt Elaine and Uncle Jim Hurlbert.
