Daryl Lloyd Thomas, age 70, of Suring, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly on May 19, 2025.
Born in Beaver Dam, WI, on May 4, 1955 to Lloyd and Virginia (Reinke) Thomas, Daryl’s spirit of adventure kicked in early, and he decided that working was far more educational than the four walls of a classroom. Daryl’s career was less of a job and more of a rolling adventure. He spent years as an over-the-road truck driver, navigating the highways and byways for various companies. But the golden era of his career was when he teamed up with his dad to form the dynamic duo of Thomas and Thomas Trucking. Together, they hauled everything that could fit in a trailer. Daryl most recently worked for McDermid Trucking.
Daryl was a man who couldn’t sit still, which is ironic considering he made his living sitting for hours on end—but that’s truckers for you, full of contradictions. When he wasn’t behind the wheel, he was the life of the party in his hometown, always ready to catch up with the locals and share a tale or two. He could make a delicious steak or burger on the grill and could always whip up a midnight snack that “hit the spot”.
He might have been a sporadic presence in the lives of his loved ones, but Daryl’s love was always there. His heart was as big as his 18-wheeler’s engine, and he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need, especially if they were down on their luck or short on laughter.
We will remember the miles he traveled and the smiles he gave us. Keep on truckin’, Daryl.
Daryl is survived by his children, Heather (Steve) Margelofsky of Juneau, Becky (Nathan) Hodgson of Burnett, and Jeremy Thomas of Randolph; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, Lawrence (Sandy) Slinger, Eugene “Butch” Slinger (Jean Tiedt), Sandy Thomas and Betty Thomas; in-laws, Philip Schultz and Gloria Bell; step daughter, Sarah Saverino; friends, Doreen Amory and Lisa Reece; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Darlene Schultz and brother, William Thomas.
There will be a private inurnment at Randolph Cemetery at a later date.
