David L. Biel

June 16, 1949 - February 28, 2024

David L. Biel, age 74, died on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at SSM Health St. Mary’s in Madison, surrounded by his family after his long battle with cancer.

David was born on June 16, 1949 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Harold and Eleanor (Hopp) Biel. After graduating from Beaver Dam High School, he proudly served his Country in the United States Army and was based in Germany from 1968 to 1971. On November 13, 1971, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Charlotte Rake, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. Dave worked for almost 40 years for the Dodge County Highway Department and retired in 2008.

Dave worked for the fair association for many years and proudly maintained the grounds and racetrack during his tenure. He was known as “Grater Man Dave” at the Dodge County Fair Grounds by many. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, NASCAR races, talking about trucks, cars & most things mechanical, Friday Dinners at Voelker’s, watching Hallmark Holiday Movies with his wife Char and just putzing in the garage. Dave always gave out a helping hand and had an endless love for his family and friends. David was a proud member of the American Legion, John E. Miller Post# 146 and a lifetime member of the Lowell VFW Post# 9392.

David is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Beaver Dam; children, Amy Neuber of Neenah, Sara Biel-Lemke (Jay Dobbratz) of Fox Lake, and Jaimie (Jason) Monnett of Oshkosh; grandchildren, Alyshia, Kayla (Juan), Calvin, and Juliet; great grandchildren, Parker, Elijah, Kelle Mae, and Mason; brothers, Dean Biel, Dale (Marcia) Biel, and Dennis (Diana) Biel; in-laws, Warren Bilke, Barbara Kamp, Cindy (Michael) Evans, and Patti Rake; special aunt and uncle, Vernon and Lois Biel; other special relatives and friends including Zack, Brooke, Ben, Braeden, Tim (Briana), Milo, Austin and Max. He was preceded in death by his parents; Harold and Eleanor; in-laws, Robert and Bernice Rake; sister, Kay Bilke; brother, Dick Biel and son-in-law, Brandon Neuber.

A special thank you to the staff of SSM Health St. Mary’s for the amazing care of Dave, the Oncology Department of Marshfield Hospital and everyone at the Dialysis Center in Beaver Dam.

There will be a celebration of Dave’s life at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in the Youth Building on Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

We're so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. We stopped getting the Citizen some time ago and I don't check the Daily Dodge often. Your family is in our prayers

David was a very kind man. David and Charlotte will forever be my favorite clients I have ever had. I hope there is a special place in heaven for such a special man who deserves so much peace after so much suffering.

My condolences to the Biel family. Dave was a great Dodge County Highway Department employee. He helped me get started when I joined the department in 2005. Daves knowledge and friendship still mean a lot to me. I will miss him.
