Delmar A. Giese

Delmar A. Giese, age 84, of Beaver Dam, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Visitation for Delmar will be at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 511 South Spring Street in Beaver Dam, on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Thursday, beginning at 12:00 Noon. Fr. John Schreiter will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in the Town of Trenton, Dodge County, Wisconsin where the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146 will conduct military honors.

Delmar Albert Giese was born on December 18, 1924 in the Town of Theresa, Dodge County, Wisconsin, and was raised by his foster parents, Raymond and Ruth Messer. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Reno during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Delmar worked at the Dodge County Highway Department for 44 years and, in retirement, worked part-time at the Beaver Dam Piggly Wiggly. He was active in the community of Burnett throughout his life. He served as the Burnett Fire Chief for many years and was the Honorary Retired Chief. He dedicated and maintained the Burnett Fireman”s Park and was a Little League coach and an umpire for the Rock River League. Delmar was a life member of the VFW and was a member of the 76er”s. He enjoyed playing bingo and he also enjoyed making several trips to California to see the Price Is Right.

Survivors include his two children, James (Gloria) Giese of Valders and Debra (Mike) Bergemann of Markesan, four grandchildren, Craig (Sarah) Bergemann of Ripon, Gail (Tom) Hansche of Kenosha, Eric (Amy) Giese of Kenosha, and Todd Bergemann of Markesan, nine great grandchildren, his fiancAC.e, Doris Schmitt of Beaver Dam, his brother, Gordon (Bonnie) Giese of Waukesha, two sisters, Lavern Verrette of Michigan and Elvira Pannell of Virginia, five sisters-in-law, Gerri Giese, Betty Nell, Irene Giese, Laverna (Harvey) Pribnow, and Carrie Albrecht, two brothers-in-law, Harold (Agnes) Lindert and William (Andrea) Lindert, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Delmar was preceded in death by his biological parents, Edwin and Selma (Ortman) Giese, his wife, Ethel, five brothers, Lawrence, Alvin, Clarence, Alfonse, and Edwin, Jr., a niece, Mary Giese, his mother and father-in-law, Edith and William Lindert, granddaughter-in-law, Brenda Bergemann, his step sister, Judy Roedl, two sisters-in-law, Marion (Oscar) Schwartz and Doris Nell, and his three brothers-in-law, Vincent Nell, Oscar Schwartz, and Winnfred Pannell.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Delmar A. Giese”s name to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, 131 W. Maple Avenue, Beaver Dam, WI 53916.
