Doris E. Schmitt

Doris E. Schmitt, age 94, of Beaver Dam, died Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Charleston House in Beaver Dam.

There will be a memorial gathering at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Fr. Will Arnold officiating. Private inurnment will be at St. Peter Cemetery.

Doris Eunice Haight was born on February 19, 1932, in Mukwa, Wisconsin to Lloyd and Eunice (nee Cartwright) Haight. She graduated in 1950 from Little Wolf High School in Manawa, Wisconsin. When she was younger, she loved to dance and roller skate; in fact, she met her future husband, Ray, at the roller rink. On August 30, 1951, she was united in marriage with Raymond Schmitt in Manawa, Wisconsin. After Ray was discharged from the military, they moved to Beaver Dam and raised their family. Through the years, she always enjoyed attending the children and grandchildren’s sporting events, concerts, and other activities. In the mid 1960’s, Doris began working as a nursing assistant at the hospital in Beaver Dam and continued for 28 years. Doris also worked at Mills Fleet Farm as a cashier for over 20 years. Doris loved sewing and made many quilts for family and friends over the years. She also enjoyed taking trips on the bingo bus.

Survivors include her three children, Shari (Don) Wenninger of Kewaskum, Randy (Jean) Schmitt of Montello, and Deb (Jim) Thompson of West Olive, MI; seven grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Wenninger, Eric (Mandy) Wenninger, Kelly Schmitt, Joe (Ariel) Barnes, Jesse Barnes, Laura (Jason) Ealy, Ben (Ashley) Thompson, and Andrea Dobbratz; seven great grandchildren, Max, Jace, and Ty Wenninger, Ella and Max Barnes, and Charleston and Bjørn Thompson; two sisters-in-law, Rita Kemnitz and Rosemary (Fred) Berger; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1987; a son, Michael Schmitt; a daughter, Mary Beth Dobbratz; and four siblings, Laverne Haight, Betty Kosmerchock, Genevieve Burdick, and Bill Haight.
