Dear family of Doug: As my sister Bev wrote above, we only knew Doug when we were children and made our annual trip to WI to visit our grandparents on their family. Doug and his siblings were our favorite cousins to play with, go to Iverson Park and swim, the sand pit, pick blueberries, play SPUD, hide & seek in the hay mow,wash the cars, play badminton, etc. Doug was 10 years older than me, but a wonderful big cousin, nice, not condescending, playful. He took me for a go-cart ride around the area, and was always great. He lit up our household when he was stationed in MD and visited us on the weekends, adding welcome laughter and fresh air. I am very sorry he is gone, and send my sympathies to all who were close to him.

I also live in the Beaver Dam area, but I didn''t hear of Doug''s passing until I read it in the Citizen which we get a day late. I am also one of the Junction City Boy''s that hung around with Doug, Bruce, Rick Zynda and the rest of the clan as we played at the last house on HWY. 10 leaving Junction. We graduated together, rode the same bus together, partied on the same island together and got in trouble together. What more can you ask of a buddy????? I heard thru friends (from up nort) that they thought Doug was living in BD but I guess I just never took the time to look him up and now you don''t know how bad that makes me feel. Dear everyone in Doug''s family, So very sorry to hear of Doug''s death. Though we only really knew Doug when we were all young, visiting the farm, I always remember his gentleness, his affectionate teasing, his kindness. How he always had a book with him, how much he loved music. The song ''Greensleeves'' always reminds me of him. We so looked forward to his weekend visits when he was stationed in Maryland, before he went to Viet Nam. Melanie still has the Supremes record he bought her, our first Motown. Sending you all our family''s love and sympathy, knowing you will miss him so much. Doug had a beautiful spirit.
