Evan Anthony Gagnon passed away in Beaver Dam on November 1, 2012, due to complications of pneumonia. Evan was born January 28, 1927, to Adeline (Taddy) and Martin Gagnon in the Fisherman’s Beach area (Rogers Street) of Two Rivers, Wisconsin.

He attended St. Luke’s Parochial School and Washington High School in Two Rivers. Evan was a 9-time letter winner and played on championship teams in football, track, and swimming. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-47 as a pharmacist’s mate, and sang in the Great Lakes Naval Service Choir. Primarily stationed in California, he played football and track on the San Diego Naval Team.

Evan attended Oshkosh State University from 1948-1951. He majored in history, geography, biology, and physical education. He lettered in track and football, captained the 1951 track team, and twice held the State University shot put championship. He was elected President of Iota Alpha Sigma and Men’s Association.

Evan married Audrey Taylor, his college sweetheart, on December 30, 1950. He initially taught and coached sports at Campbellsport High School, and competed in AAU Track and Field. In 1954, Evan and Audrey moved to Beaver Dam, where Evan taught for 33 years at Beaver Dam High School. He taught U.S. History, Biology, and World Backgrounds, and coached football and track for 18 years. Evan coached Little Ten Football Championship teams (including 2 consecutive championships) with Henry Derleth. Consequently, Evan was inducted into the BDHS Athletic Hall of Fame. Coach Gagnon was always one of my favorite coaches.. he always gave the extra effort to do the best for all of us.. he will be greatly missed..

I have great memories and respect for Mr. Gagnon from BDHS. He was such a great role model for the students and Beaver Dam. He served his students, peers and the community at the utmost levels. My thoughts are with Mr. Gagnon's family. You must be very proud of him

Both of us have such fond maemories of Mr. Gagnon from high school and beyond. He was a great supporter of the arts in our community as well as the Scholarship Foundation. His love for people was genuine and you always knew that he deeply cared about you when he'd smile that loving smile and ask how you were doing. He will be sadly and greatly missed.

We had quite a few Friday Fish Fry Dinners with both of these fine people over the years of teaching at BDHS.
Ev and I also had lots of good ice fishing together, as long as we had the Blackberry Brandy on hand.
They are both in the World beyond!
