Frank John Schuster

Frank John Schuster, age 88, of Beaver Dam, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial gathering for Frank will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008 at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 127 W. Maple Ave. from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM. The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial follow on Friday at the church at 11:30 AM with Fr. Jose Gonzalez officiating. Private inurnment will take place at St. Michael”s Cemetery, Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin, at a later date.

Mr. Schuster was born in Apatin, Yugoslavia on January 25, 1920 and resided in Beaver Dam. He was the son of Anton and Katherina (Meyer) Schuster. He was a 1938 graduate of Beaver Dam High School and a graduate of the Alexian Brothers School of Nursing, St. Louis, MO in 1942, receiving his RN Degree in September, 1942.

Mr. Schuster worked as a registered nurse at the Mt. Sinai and St. Joseph Hospitals in Beaver Dam. In 1947 he was hired as the Occupational Health Nurse at the Monarch Range Company in Beaver Dam where he worked for over 35 years, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Schuster was married on July 27, 1946 to Marie (Bartell), of Mayville. Other survivors are daughter, Nancy (Albert) Salzman, Kissimmee, FL, grandchildren, Todd Salzman, FL and Tanya Salzman, VA, daughter, Carol (Kent) Beecher, Bloomington, IL, grandchild, Melissa (Michael) Wilson and great grandchildren, Peyton, Jacob and Sydney Wilson of Bloomington, IL, grandchild, Erin (Michael) Straza of Bloomington, IL, daughter, Margaret (James) Brindley, Milwaukee, son, Anthony (Barbara) Schuster, Greenwood, SC, daughter, Christine (Gerald) Bartosch, Mayville, grandchildren, Rebecca (Rob) Schatz, Waupun, and great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kimberly and Jennifer Schatz, granddaughter, Vicky (Robert) Miller, West Bend, and great grandchildren, Melissa Frey, Annabelle Miller, Kendrick Miller and Karissa Haunfelder. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joseph.

Mr. Schuster served in the US Army during WWII from January, 1943 until November, 1945 receiving the Purple Heart for injuries received during the Battle of the Bulge.

An avid golfer for over 70 years, Mr. Schuster belonged to Fox Lake, Columbus, Sunset Hills and Old Hickory country clubs. He set the scoring record at Old Hickory in 1947 shooting a 65 and was club champion at Sunset Hills in 1972. In addition to golf, he was an avid league bowler and accomplished angler in Wisconsin and Canada.

Mr. Schuster”s pride was gardening, raising Hungarian Pepper Plants from seeds brought to this country by his parents in 1921. This hobby yielded as much as 600 pepper plants each season, which produce he shared with family and friends.

A special thank you and debt of gratitude to the many nurses, Dr. Zhang and Dr. Hei at Beaver Dam Community Hospital and the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Also, a special thank you to the Dodge County VA.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Frank”s name to a charity of one”s choice.
