Gene R. Bertelson, 74, of Horicon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at the Bedrock Watertown Health Center.
A visitation for Gene will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Pentecostal House of Prayer, W3941 WI-33, Horicon. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Beauprey officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post #157. Interment will be at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia, Wisconsin on Monday, August 21st.
Gene was born on August 5, 1949 the son of Raymond and Margaret (Fulmer) Bertelson in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Oconomowoc High School. Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy during Vietnam War. On September 16, 1972, he was united in marriage with Christine A. Pilgrim in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
Gene had been employed in metal fabrication at Mayville Metal for over 30 years. He had also worked for Brownberry Ovens for several years.
Gene was a founding and faithful member of the Pentecostal House of Prayer-Horicon. He was active in many aspects of the church from the construction of the existing church to playing guitar for services. He had a deep faith and shared this with his family. He was a member of the Horicon American Legion Post #157.
Gene also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and just tinkering around. He will fondly be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and snacking on his signature snack of popcorn.
Gene will be deeply missed by his wife of 50 years Christine; his children: William (Karen) Bertelson of Horicon, Patrick (Ellen) Bertelson of Rubicon, Candace (Edward) Gromowski of Clyman, Aaron Bertelson of Horicon; grandchildren: Gracelyn, Ariannah, Jadrien, Ethan, Vaughn and Lucas Bertelson; step granddaughter Morgan (Bill) Miller; step great granddaughter Leah Miller; sister Kathryn Renz and brother Michael (Lisa) Bertelson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law and his brother-in-law Donald Renz.
