Gerald E. Voigt, age 87, passed away surrounded by family, March 14, 2024 at the Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam, WI.
Gerald, known to all as “Mike”, was born February 06, 1937 in Beaver Dam, WI to Herman and Edna (nee Schutte) Voigt. He attended Beaver Dam High School, but like so many young men, had to leave early to work the family farm. On June 13, 1959, he was united in marriage with Geraldine Zieske and together they raised their three children, Jeffrey, David, and Kathryn. Mike got his start as a seasonal worker hauling peas to the plant, but quickly became a permanent asset to Green Giant. He held many job titles throughout his 33 year career with the company, from maintenance supervisor to Plant Engineer. He retired in 1992 but continued to consult with several canneries across the northern Midwest. Mike loved bowling and was on many teams through the years, travelling to many tournaments. He liked hunting and fishing trips with family and friends. And he really loved watching his sons and grandsons race cars at the local tracks, and his daughter playing softball. After retirement, Mike and Gerry enjoyed road-tripping to several casinos across the Midwest.
Survivors include his children, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Voigt, David Voigt, and Kathy Voigt (Wendy Roeber); three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two brothers, Earl (Margie) Voigt and Eugene (Lois) Voigt, and one sister, Lola (Dave) Milner, as well as many dear In-Laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Gerry, two brothers Roland (Sharon) Voigt and Merlin (Viola) Voigt, and his granddaughter Alexis Stevens.
A visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12 p.m. Rev. Philip Heyer will officiate. Interment will take place at Highland Memory Gardens, township of Trenton.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful Ladies at Northview Heights Assisted Living, for all their care and support.
Memorial Donations may be made in Mike’s name to St. Stephens Lutheran Church of Beaver Dam.
