Gerhardt O. Kulke, age 93, of Lowell, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.
The visitation will be at Murray Funeral Home in Reeseville on Friday, April 10, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and at Salem Lutheran Church in Lowell on Saturday, April 11, 2009 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at the church on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Vander Galien officiating. Burial will be at Lowell Cemetery.
Gerhardt Oscar Kulke was born on January 22, 1916 in the Town of Hubbard, Dodge County, Wisconsin to Henry and Wilhemena (Schuett) Kulke. He was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Hustisford. On September 24, 1940, he was united in marriage with Lorraine Schmoldt in Hustisford. Gerhardt farmed all his life and was also a salesman for Jung Seed Company. He served on the board of the Federal Land Bank and was an active member of the Dodge County Farm Bureau. Gerhardt also served many years on the school boards for Lowell, Lowell-Reeseville, and Dodgeland school districts. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lowell, where he served on the church council and he and his wife served as church janitor for many years. Gerhardt always enjoyed talking with the children when they came to Sunday school.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, Lowell, sons, Kenneth, Lowell, Howard (Bonnie), Waterloo, grandchildren, Stephanie (Jackson) Wilson, Christopher, and Erik (Dorothy), great grandchildren, Alice and Emmitt Wilson, foster son, Eugene “Jake” “Pete” Jahns, brother, Nordien (Lorena), Lebanon, sister, Adline (Fritz) Gebhard, Hustisford, sisters-in-law, Alyce (Bob) Schoenwetter, Beaver Dam, Eva Schmoldt, Lowell, Gladys Schmoldt, Watertown, and Evelyn Schmoldt, Watertown, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gerhardt was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, nephew, Gary Gebhard, foster son, Jeff Huettner, sister-in-law, Bernice (Merlin) Norenberg, and brothers-in-law, Corliss Schmoldt, and Allen (Merle) Schmoldt.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Gerhardt O. Kulke”s name to Salem Lutheran Church or to the Salem Ladies Aid.
