Harold “Shorty” Beitz

Harold “Shorty” W. Beitz, age 86, of Columbus, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Columbus Health and Rehab Center.

The visitation will be at Zion Lutheran Church in Columbus on Monday, September 25, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at the church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Benjamin Zuberbier officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Waterloo.

Harold William was born on October 23, 1936 in Columbus, Wisconsin to Arnold and Alma (Klug) Beitz. He was raised on the family farm in Columbus, which he continued to operate. Harold was united in marriage with Marilyn Langer on June 25, 1960. Shorty’s life revolved around milking time but he was able to have some fun throughout his years by bowling, horseshoes and snowmobiling when the work was done. He was a faithful member at Zion Lutheran Church, a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandfather.

Harold is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Columbus; sons, William Beitz of Columbus and Dan Beitz of Marshall; grandchildren, Hallie Beitz and Walker Beitz; sisters, Eleanor Schulze of Columbus and Wilma Meixner of Windsor; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Beitz.

Memorials may be made in Harold W. Beitz’s name to Zion Lutheran Church.
