Harvey A. Scherer, age 87, formerly of Juneau, died on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Wisconsin Veteran”s Home in Union Grove.
Friends may call at St. John”s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau on Friday, February 8, 2008 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. The Juneau American Legion Post #15 is invited for a walkthrough on Friday afternoon at 1:30 PM. The funeral service will follow at the church on Friday at 2:00 PM with Rev. Paul Hirsch officiating. Burial will be held after the service at the Juneau City Cemetery with military honors presented by the Juneau American Legion, Post #15.
Harvey Arthur Scherer was born on February 17, 1920 in the Town of Friendship, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, to the late Paul and Martha (Ballwanz) Scherer. He served during WWII in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in the South Pacific. On September 2, 1950 he was united in marriage with Ethylin Jahnke at St. John”s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau. Harvey worked for the Dodge County Highway Depart for 28 years. He was a member of the Juneau American Legion, Post #15 for over 50 years and was a member of the VFW. Harvey was an active participant St. John”s Lutheran Church and was on the church council.
He is survived by his three children, Michael (Diane) Scherer of Horicon, Joan (Monte) Roche and Jean Roedl, both of Sparta, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a brother, Roger (Jean) Scherer of Black River Falls, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ethylin, and three brothers, Norman (Rachel), Raymond (Gert) and Paul (Anna) Scherer.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Harvey”s name to St. John”s Ev. Lutheran Church.
