Harvey J. Simon

Harvey J. Simon, 84, Beaver Dam, passed away March 16, 2025, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam with family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy, Wisconsin.  A visitation for Harvey will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Father Edwin Kornath as celebrant.  Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery, LeRoy, Wisconsin.

Harvey was born April 14, 1940, in the town of LeRoy, to Hugo and Margaret (Zangl) Simon.  He grew up on the family farm, attended St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic grade school, and graduated from Mayville High School in 1958.  He went on to become a proud Badger at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1963.  Harvey acquired his C.P.A. license and was employed with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for nearly 40 years.

Harvey was extremely involved in his beloved LeRoy community.  For years, he functioned as trustee at St. Andrew parish, as well as being a member of the Holy Name Society.  He was a longtime member of the Brownsville Lions Club and treasurer of the LeRoy Town Board.  A sports fan to the core, he was a decades-long member and supporter of the LeRoy Athletic Club, spending numerous evenings at the ballfield coaching Little League, umpiring, and cheering on local teams.  A true “golf nut”, he fully leveraged his perpetual Camelot Country Club membership whenever possible, only missing the treasured Sunday Morning Early Bird League (for which he also performed treasurer duties) upon formal declarations of natural disaster.  In his later years, he could usually be found with a good history book and within arm’s reach of ice cream or chocolate.

Harvey is survived by his children, Trish (Dave) Braun of Jefferson, Mark (Kelly) Simon of Beaver Dam, Tim Simon of Middleton, and Pam (R.J.) Hinkle of Coppell, TX; eight grandchildren, Matthew (Jackie) Braun, Melissa Braun, Teresa (Jared) Stofflet, Nathan, Eric, and Brendan Simon, Austin and Katy Hinkle; and four great-grandchildren, Liam and Lily Braun, Delilah and Cecilia Stofflet.  He also leaves behind his two sisters, Kathleen Krueger and Rose (John) Hansen, both of Fond du Lac; brothers-in-law, George and Tom (Karen) Schraufnagel; sister-in-law, Mary Schraufnagel; along with nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Mary Simon Schaefer; brothers-in-law, Ken Krueger and Dan Schraufnagel; and sister-in-law, Linda Schraufnagel.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the staff of Matthews of Horicon, along with Eagles Wings, Marshfield Medical Center, and Hillside Manor (all of Beaver Dam), for their care and kindness through the past 14 years.
