Helen R. Neis

Helen Rose Neis (nee Ollinger), age 92 of Beaver Dam, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 23rd 2023 at Eagle’s Wings Assisted Living Facility in Beaver Dam.

Visitation will be held at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Wednesday, November 1st from 4 pm to 6 pm. On Thursday, November 2nd , a visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:50 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church.

Helen was born on October 26, 1930, in Beaver Dam, WI, to Andrew and Rose Ollinger. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1948. After graduation, she worked at JCPenney until her marriage to Leon Neis on November 20, 1954 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Helen then worked for the City of Beaver Dam in the finance office for 23 years while raising her children.
Helen will be remembered for her vivacious spirit and sharp wit. She loved old-time polka dancing, camping, traveling, and tending to her yard in her later years. She attended local stock car races with her family and frequently watched professional racing on TV. Helen was a voracious reader, often seen sipping her coffee with a newspaper or a good novel. She was a devoted grandmother who attended many children’s sports games and events. Her family will miss her annual Christmas cookie day and baking their favorite cookie recipes together for the holiday season.

She is survived by her children, Donna Neis (Flora Figueroa) of Largo, FL; David Neis of Oconomowoc, WI; Connie Fiegel (Ric) of Beaver Dam, WI, and their children Austin (Lauren) and Haley; Mike Neis of Theresa, and his children Peter and Phillip (Haley); her sister Margaret Manning of Juneau; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Helen is preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kay (1988); her husband, Leon (2004); and her brother Rich (1993).

The Neis family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Eagle’s Wings for their care and concern for Helen over the past 15 months.

Memorials may be made in Helen Neis’ name to “St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment Fund”.
