Ignacio “Del” D. Contreras, age 73, died on Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam, having fought a courageous battle with multiple myeloma for four years.
The memorial gathering for Del will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at St. John”s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The memorial service will follow on Tuesday at the church at 1:00 PM with Rev. Paul Hirsch and Rev. Paul Schupmann officiating. Inurnment will be at St. John”s Ev. Lutheran Church Cemetery, Town of Oak Grove, Dodge County, Wisconsin, with military honors presented by the Juneau American Legion Post #15.
Ignacio was born on a family farm near Las Cruces, New Mexico on December 8, 1934, the son of Meliton and Benedicta (Delgado) Contreras. Del served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 until 1960. He married Susan Carol Fashun in Copenhagen, Denmark on August 14, 1979 while on an overseas assignment for General Motors Corporation (GMC). He retired from Delco Systems Operations, GMC, in Santa Barbara/Goleta, California on July 31, 1992 as a Senior Quality Engineer. Del was a certified Quality Engineer through the American Society for Quality Control and served various offices and was Chairman of the Channel Islands Section in Southern California. He was also a member of the European Organization for Quality Control. Del and Susan moved to Beaver Dam Township in July of 1998. Del served on the Board of Elders at St. John”s Ev. Lutheran Church, in Juneau , and was active visiting the congregation shut-ins.
Loving husband of Susan C. Contreras, he is also survived by stepson, Robert W. (Diane) Scott, of Marcola, OR, stepdaughter, Myra C. Contreras-Sanchez, of Ukiah, CA, four brothers, Everett (Beatrice) Contreras, Meliton (Chole) Contreras, Jr., Patricio (Angelina) Contreras, all of El Paso, TX, and Carlos (Tracy) Contreras, of Pflugerville, TX, five stepgrandsons and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family suggests that memorials be made in Ignacio”s name to St. John”s Ev. Lutheran Church.
