Irene I. Cruz, age 62, died on Friday, December 28, 2007, at her home in Waupun surrounded by her family.

Friends and family may gather on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam and on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 from 10:00 AM until the time of service, at the funeral home. The funeral service for Irene will be at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Carlos Florez officiating. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.

The former Irene Isabel Marquez was born on September 1, 1945 to Joseph and Margarita (Linarez) Marquez, in Randolph, Wisconsin. She was united in marriage with Alfredo Cruz in St. Paul, Minnesota. Irene lived in the Dodge County area most of her life, much of it being in the Randolph area. After her husband”s death in 1987, she worked at various places to provide for her family. She was a caring, compassionate mother and that carried on to her extended family as well. She was a mother figure for many of her nieces and nephews and always had her home open to her family.

Irene is survived by her three children, Sarah Lindgren of Jamestown, North Dakota, Margarite (Ruben) Matias of Waupun, and Alfredo “Fred” (Rebecca) Marquez of Waupun, her mother, Margarita Marquez of Beaver Dam, thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Tomasita (Lalo) Martinez of Beaver Dam, Mary (Juan) Sanchez of Berlin, Joseph “Vince” Marquez of Waupun, Daniel Marquez of Elmendorf, Texas, Franklin “George” (Georgine) Marquez of Beaver Dam, Rachel Marquez of Beaver Dam, and Gloria (Isidro) Cervantes of Johnson Creek, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Irene was preceded in death by her father, her husband, an infant sister, Yolanda Marquez, a son-in-law, Michael Lindgren, and a sister-in-law, Gloria Marquez.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Irene”s name to Margarite Matias or Freddie Marquez.
