James A. Schumacher

James Schumacher, 70, of Horicon, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, with his family by his side.

James (Jim) was born on October 25, 1955, son of Alois and Eldred Schumacher. He was the youngest of four children. He worked for the City of Horicon, proudly snowplowing the streets for 30+ years before retiring in 2011. On June 9, 1979, he married his forever sweetheart, Susie. Together, they created a beautiful legacy of love and devotion.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman with a passion for the outdoors and wildlife. His favorite memories involved his best hunting buddy, Jason. He also enjoyed his special lunch dates with his daughter, Jen, having root beer floats and fries. Jim was known for his meticulous organizational skills, always knowing the precise location of anything (which did not rub off on Jason or James). He was a steadfast anchor, a trusted mentor, and a role model led by example.

He loved nothing more than spending time with his family whether it involved hunting, fishing, going to the cabin, or just sitting around the kitchen table. He cherished his daily phone calls with his sister Perkie where they would talk about anything. Jim’s granddaughter, Avery, was his pride and joy-he loved all the special times that they shared like sleepovers, swinging in the basement, working in the shop with tools, casting the fishing rod, shooting the BB gun, and tractor rides. Many memories were shared that will remain with us forever.

Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susie; his son, Jason (Andrea) Schumacher of Waupun and his daughter, Jennifer (James) Dietz of Beaver Dam. He is also survived by his precious granddaughter Avery. He is further survived by his siblings Perkie Kloida, Deanna Butler, and Bob (Jill) Schumacher; sisters in law and brothers in law, Dave (Jane) Westimayer, Barb (Dale) Keach, Tony (Mary Kay) Westimayer, Pat (Gary Klein) Spettel, Sandy (Randy) Franke, Mike (Jodie) Westimayer, Jon (Liz) Westimayer, Kathy (Wes) Elford as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Eldred Schumacher, his stepmother Betty Freeman-Schumacher, his father and mother-in-law, Tony and Helen Westimayer, brothers in law Tom Westimayer and Greg Kloida and his unborn grandbaby who he is now holding in heaven.

Per Jim’s wishes, there will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, any donations that are given to the family will be put toward getting youth into the outdoors and interested in hunting and fishing.
