Janice M. Pahl, 79, of Horicon, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 22, 1947, to Sara Jean and Ray Hoffmann, Janice grew up in Brookfield with a passion for education. After graduating from Brookfield Central High School in 1965, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1969, Janice worked as a teacher in the Horicon School District and other schools for many years. Janice’s students benefitted from her abundance of patience and kindness.
Janice married Keith Pahl in Horicon on July 10, 1971, and together they built a joyful life centered around their family. Jan worked for the family business, Pahl Services, wearing many hats and helping ensure people had fuel to heat their homes on many cold Wisconsin nights for many years. Janice loved the library and reading. She served on the Board for the Horicon Public Library and volunteered there.
Janice was always a gracious host, welcoming family for major holiday gatherings for many years. She always put her family first. Janice and Keith celebrated 55 years of marriage in July.
Janice loved knitting. To be a friend or family member of Jan meant to receive at least one knitted item from her. She also loved gardening, visiting the TAG Center in Mayville for her regular walks (and of course the mandatory stop at the Open Door Coffeehouse afterwards), and playing cards and games with her family. Janice stayed connected to current events and to her family throughout her life and would always reach out to her grandchildren to ask how they did on a big test or at a big game.
Janice is survived by her husband, Keith; her daughters, Rebecca (Joe Grenchik) and Heather (Brendan Leonard); her daughter-in-law, Teresa Pahl (Mager); and her grandchildren, Kian Pahl Leonard and Adelynn Grace Pahl Leonard. She is also survived by her siblings, Carol Jeras, Vicki Cheesman, and Bob Hoffmann; and her nieces and nephews, Jacqui Jeras (Mike Ellis), Jennifer Cheesman-Falkner, Allison Gordon (Matt), Rob (Bri) Cheesman, Cassey Smith (Roger Smith Jr.), Tanya Kowalski (Brandon Kowalski), and Kyle Hoffmann (Kristin). Janice was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Pahl; her parents; and her niece, Janel Green.
A celebration of Janice’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, with a visitation starting at 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at Koepsell Funeral Home, 716 Clinton St, Horicon. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion Post 157, 735 S. Hubbard St., Horicon, until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Horicon Public Library.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Clearview Long-Term Care & Rehabilitation Center in Juneau for their kind and compassionate care during Janice’s final days.
