Jeffrey M. Omen, 68, a lifelong resident of Beaver Dam passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 9, 2023 at his home.
Jeff was born on May 24, 1955 in Beaver Dam, WI to John and Marian (Livingston) Omen. He was the eldest of four siblings. Jeff was a 1973 graduate of Beaver Dam High School, and recently enjoyed his 50th class reunion.
Jeff met and fell in love with Deb Griesbach, and they were married on August 25, 1979. They raised two wonderful sons and had 34 lovely years together before Deb passed away tragically while on vacation with Jeff in 2012.
Jeff served his community as a firefighter and EMT for the Beaver Dam Fire Department for 33 years until his retirement.
Jeff’s diverse interests included traveling and spending time with his family, Harley Davidson motorcycles (and other motorized vehicles), creatures of all shapes and sizes, scouring flea markets for treasures to add to his wide array of collections, refinishing antique furniture, enjoying live music, attending community events and decorating his home for holidays.
Jeff impacted many lives with his kindness, humor and generosity. He loved meeting new people who would quickly become his friends. He was a mischievous prankster, who would devise elaborate shenanigans and patiently watch them play out to his immense delight.
Jeff had a distinctive style and was easily recognizable in recent years with his top hat, skeleton jacket, skull rings and unique jewelry which may have been disconcerting on first or even second glance, but Jeff’s quick smile, warmth, friendliness and gentle approachability would shine through.
Jeff is survived by his sons: Jake and Shane Omen both of Beaver Dam; his mother Marian Omen of Beaver Dam; siblings: Scott (Vicki) Omen of Roswell, GA, Chris (Denise) Omen of Walnut Creek, CA, and Mindy (Mark) Russell of Beaver Dam; grandson Mason Carter; special friend Sally Schaefer of Juneau; nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his father John; wife Deb in 2012; and brother-in-law Butch Ledworowski.
A memorial gathering will take place on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Trinity Church – United Methodist in Beaver Dam from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. The service will also be livestreamed through the church at www.trinityumbd.org/onlineworship.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jeff’s name to the Beaver Dam Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, Jeff’s family would like to encourage you to extend a kindness to another person. We feel Jeff would also consider it an honor if you added just a bit more to decorating your own space for the holidays.
