John M. Brefka

John M. Brefka, 73 years old, of Mayville, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Hope Health & Rehabilitation in Lomira, after a courageous battle with cancer.A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville, with the Rev. Father Tom Biersack presiding. A visitation will take place on Monday, January 23rd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville, and also on Tuesday, January 24th from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Michael Cemetery in Beaver Dam.John Michael Brefka was born on December 17, 1943 to Alexander and Helen (Kempinski) Brefka in Beaver Dam. He was a 1962 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. John was united in marriage to Susan J. Marion on June 13, 1970 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fond du Lac, WI. He was employed as a printer at various businesses over the years, including Service Print of Mayville. After retiring, he delivered the Dodge County Pionier Newspaper to area businesses.John was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. He enjoyed spending time in his yard, fishing, and most of all helping his family.John is survived by: his wife Sue of Mayville; his children- Diane (Bill) Martin of Franklin, Tom (Claire) Brefka of Franklin, Sharon (Walt) Spafford of Watertown, Steve (Chris) Brefka of Fond du Lac, and Melissa Brefka of Waukesha; his sisters & brothers-in-law- Kathy (Bill) Emmer of Fond du Lac, Betty (Rick) Baker of Fond du Lac, Dick (Diane) Marion of Malone, and John (Pam) Marion of Fond du Lac; 9 grandchildren- Abby, Katie, Elizabeth, Caryn, Alex, Ben, Alex, Braxton, and Jonathon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.John is preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law Judy Rake.
