Joe made an effort to reconnect with me in recent years as a member of the old neighborhood. He told stories about my dad and brother and reminded me of good times with them. He was a good neighbor and friend, always positive and good-humored when we met. He was a hoot at polka dances and Friday fish fries. Tim and I looked forward to seeing him and we'll miss him.

Our deepest sympathy to the Stortz Family. We were blessed to have Joe as our neighbor for over 30 years and he was the rock of the neighborhood who will sadly be missed. Dave & Barb Loehrke

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
Margaret Wheeler left a message on August 9, 2019:

We were really hoping and praying that this strong and special man would beat his injury and come back to Mayville and his family and friends. Uncle Joe was part of every "Stortz" memory I have. Always teasing, joking and laughing . . . we had some great times. I'm really sad and sorry for Steve, his family, and John and his family. Wow, this was a shock. Prayers will be going on tonight. I know he already has a very special place in heaven. Margaret and George Wheeler (Char's sister).

I knew Joe very well when I was young. My best friend was his son Tom. I spent a lot of time over at their house and he took me fishing with his sons many a time. What a wonderful man. I'm sure he is missed greatly by his family. Fred Palmer
