Lester Ervin Guptill

Lester E. Guptill, age 76, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at his brother”s home in Reeseville.

A memorial gathering will take place at Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Monday, January 12, 2009 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home on Monday at 3:00 PM with Rev. Carol Lange officiating. There will be time for fellowship after the service on Monday at United Church of Christ in Lowell. Cremation has taken place.

Lester Ervin Guptill was born on April 18, 1932 to Herbert and Alice (Mieske) Guptill. On October 15, 1960 he was united in marriage with Rose Goetsch in Horicon. Lester worked for many fabrication companies in the area including Maysteel in Mayville, King Manufacturing in Waupun and Koplin in Fox Lake. He then operated Blackhawk Resort in Fox Lake. Lester later moved to Arkansas in 1978 and was active in many community activities until he moved back to Wisconsin in 2006.

Survivors include his step-children, Jim (Deb) Johnson, Salem, AR, Daniel Johnson, Evening Shade, AR, and Laura (Steve) Fillmore, Sun Prairie, six step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren, brothers, Russell (Doris) Guptill, Beaver Dam, Alvin Guptill, King, Ron Guptill, Reeseville, and Richard Guptill, Madison, sisters, Eleanor Borja, Old Town, ME, Donna (Edwin) Freber, Fall River, and Mildred (Eugene) Wackett, Oregon, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rose, brothers, Clarence, Raymond, and Jim, sister, June Miner, and an infant sister, Jane.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Lester”s name to Hillside Home Care and Hospice, 707 S. University Ave., Beaver Dam, WI, 53916.

My deepest sympathy lies with the Guptill Family. I worked with Les, when he was Mayor of Evening Shade and brought the new water treatment plant to the Town. I enjoyed worked with him and admired him for the man that he was. As a paraphrase from the good book "He lived a good life, fought a good fight, made life better for others, and now has gone to be with the Lord. Peace be to you.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Guptill when he was mayor of Evening Shade, Arkansas. What a wonderful man! I also had the pleasure of knowing Rose. She made me a doll with a handmade dress, so beautiful. I am sorry to learn of Mr. Guptill''s passing. I will always remember him. I send my sincere sympathy to the family.
