The former Lorraine Evelyn Kuhlman was born on March 14, 1922 in the Town of Lowell at the family farmhouse, Dodge County, Wisconsin to the late Levi John and Emma (Kuehl) Kuhlman. She attended Gahlman one room school for 8 years and enjoyed reminiscing about those years with her schoolmate Lucille Nowak of Beaver Dam. She and her sister Bernice helped their parents cook for and manage the old County Home in Juneau. On November 21, 1952, she was united in marriage with Carl L. Kath at the United Methodist Parsonage in Lowell. She was a homemaker her entire life and was an excellent cook, often remembering cooking for the many “threshing crews” around her dining room table. She and her husband enjoyed card parties and entertaining at their home. One of Lorraine”s most wonderful gifts was her ability to write poetry. Throughout her life she would write poems to commemorate many family occasions and church events; she most recently did so in honor of a 40th Birthday this past December. For the past three years, she also wrote a Christmas poem honoring the care center. Lorraine was well-known for her column, “Home Spun Chat”s” that ran for over 40 years in both the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen and the Dodge County Independent. She also loved sending and receiving letters, greeting cards and post cards. She prided herself on sending birthday cards to friends and family, always with a short note. Before moving to Golden Living Center, Lorraine always enjoyed her autumn trip to the Amish area near Dalton. Lorraine loved to play cards, read books, play dominoes and complete word puzzles; most of all, she was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan – she never missed a game. She kept current on political events and daily news, always waiting for that daily paper to arrive. The past few years, Lorraine enjoyed the staff and her friends at the Golden Living Center and especially the Monday Bingo games and the musical activities. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Lowell where she taught Sunday School and vacation Bible School for many years; she also played the piano for various church events through the years and sang in the adult choir for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid since 1955. She and her husband were very involved in church activities and events and always volunteered to help when needed. Lorraine”s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she displayed their many photos in her room. She was an inspiration to many people and always had a smile and a kind word. She will truly be missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen (David) Bock of Hustisford, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jeremy (Melissa) Bock and their children Elise, Amelia and Meredith, all of DePere, and Trisha (Peder) Monis and their children Abigail and Jack, all of Ashippun, a special friend, Donna Neuberger of Reeseville and her roommate Ruth Loew; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including all her friends at the Golden Living Center. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, in June of 1981, her sister, Bernice Kuhlman in 1964, two brothers, Harvey Kuhlman in 1976,and Alton Kuhlman in 1998, her great grandson, Grant Monis in 2002 and a special friend, Merlin Bleifuss, January 2008.
