Margaretta Barbara Gergen

Margaretta Gergen, age 101, of Beaver Dam, died Monday, April 21, 2008 at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Visitation for Margaretta will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Katharine Drexel Church, 511 S. Spring St. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Fr. Carlos Florez officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter”s Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin.

The former Margaretta Barbara Bauer was born on October 22, 1906 in Bloomer, Wisconsin to the late Peter and Eveline (Stofflet) Bauer. On August 2, 1947, she was united in marriage with Anton “Scotty” Gergen at St. Peter”s Catholic Church in Beaver Dam. He preceded Margaretta in death on February 9, 2004. Margaretta was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Church and had been active in the Daughter”s of Isabella, St. Peter”s Christian Mothers, and the 3rd Order of St. Francis.

Survivors include four children, Rosemary (S. Robert) Jonas of Green Bay, Dr. Margaret “Gretchen” (Peter) Byfield, PhD of DeForest, Dr. Peter (Kay Bondehagen) Gergen, MD of Kensington, MD and Anne (Ralph Brooks) Gergen of Fitchburg, three grandchildren, Rachel Gergen, Maggie Gergen and Sophie Brooks and a special niece, Barbara Wollner.

The family suggests that memorials be made in Margaretta Gergen”s name to the St. Katharine Drexel School Endowment Fund.
