Marjean K. Pountain, 72, left us on September 6, after a two-and-a-half year struggle with mesothelioma cancer. Marjean was resting peacefully in Charlie’s arms when God chose to take her home to be with him, exactly as she had wished. Marjean was born on November 1, 1953 to the Reverend Milton and Lillian (Bramer) Kading in Lowell, WI. Her father served as pastor for the UCC Church in the town of Russell and the Rooster Church in the Town of Rhine. The family moved to Illinois, where Marjean graduated from Lena-Winslow High School in 1971.
Marjean’s professional career started in banking. She quickly moved in the 70s and 80s, to real estate and property management. Marjean became licensed as a Wisconsin Real Estate Broker, a Certified Property Manager, and a Certified Occupancy Specialist. She was heavily involved and highly respected in the Institute of Real Estate Management, serving as Regional Vice President for IREM, along with chairing on several national boards, including the National Board of Ethical Inquiry, National Ethics & Discipline Committee, and National Instructor & Grader Advisory Board, just to name a few. She truly was a pioneer as a woman in real estate management. In 2008, she founded Pountain Partners, LLC, where she served as a consultant, expert witness, advisor, trainer, mentor and mediator. She also was a member of “The Ladies of the Lake” and the President of the Library Board both in Elkhart Lake.
In 1981, Marjean met Charlie Pountain, at Summerfest, it was love at first sight and they have been inseparable ever since. They were married on June 12, 1986, and moved from Milwaukee to rural Elkhart Lake in 1992. Marjean and Charlie loved to go on bird-watching adventures throughout the world. They visited many wonderful places, including Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, and several more. While Charlie went birding, Marjean enjoyed reading books, newspapers and soaking in the local culture and cuisine. She delighted her Facebook friends with photos of their trips including descriptive captions. They also travelled extensively in the United States, often in conjunction with real estate seminars and conventions. Their special place was Door County.
Marjean is survived by her loving husband Charlie, his half sister Florence Mellott and her wonderful family living in Australia and their two cats, Trixy and Toots, as well as many friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Virginia (Bob) Koepsel, her brother John (Ruth) Kading, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Coella Pountain.
Per Marjean’s wishes, there will be no visitation, funeral, or celebration of life. A private entombment will be made after cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cancer research in Marjean’s name.
