Mary Ann Thoreson

Mary Ann Thoreson, age 68, a life-long resident of Horicon, died Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital.

Visitation for Mary Ann will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Horicon on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at church on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 AM. Fr. Michael Petrie will officiate. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Horicon.

The former Mary Ann Marlock was born on October 7, 1940 in Horicon, Wisconsin to the late Anthony and Delores (Plageman) Marlock. She attended area schools and was a graduate of Horicon High School. On July 2, 1960, she was united in marriage with Fred Kasten in Horicon. On June 10, 1979, Mary Ann was united in marriage with Warren Thoreson in rural Hustisford. After Warren”s death, her life companion was Dick Schiffman.

Mary Ann worked at Clearview Nursing Home in Juneau for 25 years, retiring on May 9, 1996. She had several hobbies including rug hooking, knitting, gardening, and antiquing. One of Mary Ann”s favorite pastimes was spending time with her friends and following the activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Horicon.

Survivors include her five children, Kraig (Kari) Kasten of Beaver Dam, Kevin (Patty) Kasten of Ripon, Kelly Kasten of Waupun, Korey Kasten (Don Madriaga) of Horicon, and Kimberly Kasten (David Dejno) of Mayville; seven grandchildren, Kolin, Kortnee, Kii, Kyle, Kelsey, Katie, and Kristian; her companion of 25 years, Dick Schiffman of Horicon; two sisters, Patricia (“Butch”) Schwanke of Horicon and Madelyn Lazich of Milwaukee; two special friends, Mary Lomas of Indianapolis and Bev Stange of Beaver Dam; her faithful four-legged companion, Belle, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her second husband, Warren Thoreson.

The family suggests that memorials may be made in Mary Ann Thoreson”s name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Please accept my condolences. I knew Mary Ann from rug hooking and regrettably I hadn''t seen her in quite a while. I loved hearing her stories about her family. She was full of life and had such a contagious smile. She did beautiful rug hooking. Mary Ann was open to new friendships and was easy to be with. I''m very thankful to have met her. God bless to all of her family and friends.

My sincere sympathy to all Mary Ann''s family. This beautiful woman is 8 years older than I am. She babysat me and my brothers when she was in high school. She was the first beautiful woman that ever touched my heart; she was the classic 50''s Beauty and soooo very kind! When she babysat she wore a typical ''50s flowing skirt and black and white saddle shoes; I envied her because when she came to our house, she was always chewing gum AND SHE COULD MAKE IT SNAP whenever she wanted! So she must have been about 17 and I was about 9 amd first noticing the beauty of women.........my first crush. I saw her years later at my grandma Buhalog''s (Miller-Marlock) funeral; even though we were both decades older, she still struck my heart with her beauty and kindness.
