Mary Niemeyer, age 51, of Horicon, Wisconsin, passed away on April 16, 2025 at 12:15 a.m. at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. She was born on September 19, 1973, in North Carolina to Willie and Ruby (Allen) Smith.
Mary lived her younger years being outside in the heat with her brother, Andy and cousins, Rosa and Linda. She grew up splitting wood and eating tomatoes off the vine. She listened to rock n’ roll, country, and rap music. Mary was raised a southern woman with a southern attitude. She relocated herself to Wisconsin at 19 and met friends Karri and Marlene, who introduced her to husband, Russ.
Mary was united in marriage with Russell Niemeyer on August 22, 1999 in Reeseville, Wisconsin. They found home within each other but resided all over Dodge County, where they raised their daughter, Kate, with the help of friends and family.
Mary dedicated much of her life to caring for others, working for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant in nursing homes. Her compassion extended beyond her profession—she had a deep love for both the elderly and all children. Known affectionately by many as “everybody’s mama,” Mary had a unique ability to offer both firm guidance and heartfelt praise when it was needed most.
She had a playful spirit and a sharp mind. Mary enjoyed word searches and had a passion for language, especially spelling and English—subjects she loved helping her daughter with during school. Her sense of humor and silliness brought joy to those around her, yet she could be serious and a tough cookie all in the same breath.
Mary also found joy in video games like golf and Zuma and had a special fondness for animals, especially dogs and goats. Her warmth, wit, and unwavering care left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her husband, Russell; daughter, Katelyn; and niece, Lydia Elgersma; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, James “Andy” Smith.
There will be a graveside service at Lowell Cemetery on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Stauffacher officiating.
