Matthew S. Werbelow, 48, of Beaver Dam fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at his home.
A memorial gathering for Matt will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023 from Noon until 1:30 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. A memorial service will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Philip Heyer officiating.
Matthew was born on June 12, 1975 and was the son of Ralph E. and Linda (Homan) Werbelow. He was a 1994 graduate of Beaver Dam High School. Matt was a dedicated employee of Culver’s Restaurant in Beaver Dam since it opened in 1994. Matt was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Stephen’s Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Area Orchestra where he enjoyed playing the violin. Matt had volunteered at P.A.V.E. for many years. He enjoyed karaoke and going on family trips especially to Shawano. Matt also enjoyed attending many concerts, Brewers games and Lifest with his good friend Ryan.
Matt will be remembered by all his friends and family as having an enormous heart. Matt had a generous spirit. He was kind, helpful and caring and will be forever missed. Matt had a positive effect on everyone he met.
Matt will be deeply missed by his mother, Linda; his sister Stephanie Werbelow both of Beaver Dam; his uncle Larry Homan of Waupun and his aunt Connie Werbelow of Oregon. He is further survived by many cousins, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph in 2018 and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

It seems there wasn't a time when I didn't know Matt Werbelow. I worked with Matt in the mid '80s as a beginning violinist and was with him when he graduated from the BDHS orchestra in '94. Who would have known that Matt and I would continue to play music together as part of the Area Orchestra for another 30 seasons! I was so blessed to have known him and I am so sad to hear of his passing. Kind, loving, gentle and genuine. He was truly a role model to our younger orchestra students as he modeled a lifetime of music! I am very proud of what he accomplished. I wish his family and friends, members of the BDAO my sincere condolences. He is hopefully making more music once again with his favorite teacher, Mark Leiser!

I played violin in Matt's section with the Beaver Dam Area Orchestra the last 3 seasons and a couple times as his stand partner.
We chatted before/ after rehearsals and I found him to be kind and welcoming. We talked about "The Chosen" and Christian music & concerts, and I was so impressed with his dedication with BDAO for 30 seasons! I know he was a follower of our Lord and Savior.
