Maureen “Cookie” Strohbusch, 79, of Beaver Dam died peacefully, but broken-hearted, on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Beaver Dam Health Care Center.
Maureen was born on June 8, 1944 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and was the youngest and last surviving child of William and Vivian (Backhaus) Strohbusch’s 5 children: Donald, Beverly, George, Janice, & Maureen.
Cookie had been employed as a bartender at various area taverns for many years, but was extremely proud of her 42+ years of being alcohol free. She was eternally grateful for the help and support of GOD, AA and the dear friends she made through AA, who helped her maintain her sobriety. She had also been employed as a parts delivery driver for Green Giant and worked at the Weyenberg Shoe Factory back in the day! Cookie really enjoyed helping her daughter with cooking, gardening and canning and buying her weird kitchen gadgets that actually worked at saving time and energy. She loved her dog Missy Pants and was never far from her, together they loved to watch movies on the Hallmark channel and any and all game shows. Cookie also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, crocheting, needle point, playing cards, rummage sales and thrift store shopping.
Maureen will be deeply missed by her daughter JoAnn Masche-Daane (Dave Daane) of Markesan; her grandchildren: Andrew Masche, Rebecca Masche and Sarah Masche, her great grandson Greyson Masche, all of New Zealand; and the family of Connie Flouro, who were Cookie and Joe’s neighbors and best friends. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her lifelong partner Joseph Masche Sr. who died on March 15, 2024; her sons: William and Joseph Jr. and grandson Benjamin.
A graveside memorial service for both Joe and Maureen will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Jim Wendt officiating. There will be a luncheon afterwards at the Higher Grounds Coffee House on Hwy. 33.
