Melvin H. Retzlaff

Melvin H. Retzlaff, age 85, of Mayville passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at Mathews of Horicon, Wisconsin.Funeral Services for Melvin will take place on Monday, February 9th at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mayville with Reverend Barry Hoerz officiating. A visitation will also take place on Monday, February 9th from 2:00 p.m. to the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. A luncheon will follow the service at the church, inurnment will follow at a later date. Melvin was born on April 14, 1929 in the Town of Herman to Edmund and Augusta (Maaske) Retzlaff. He was married to Eldine M. Voight on May 28, 1949 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. Melvin was first employed by Purity Cheese then at Maysteel in Mayville. Melvin then farmed together with his wife in the Town of Theresa until they built their home together in Mayville in 2000.He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, where he was an usher, on the church council, and was on the cemetery board for many years. Melvin was fond of nature and enjoyed the outdoors be it at his cabin in near Waupaca hunting and fishing or taking a leisurely drive around Dodge County. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and taking motor coach tours.Melvin is survived by his 2 daughters and 1 son; Susan (Daryl “Bimbo”) Plageman, of Horicon, Joyce (Randy) Schuett, of Mayville, and Larry (Susan) Retzlaff, of Mayville. Grandchildren; Amy (Ryan) McDonald, Sara (Kerry Bence) Plageman, Lindsey Retzlaff, Alec (Karolyn Burwitz) Retzlaff, Ashley (Carter Robl) Schuett, and Nate Schuett. Great grandchildren; Josie and Logan McDonald, and Aria McClinton. His brother; Edward (Martha) Retzlaff, his sisters; Bernice (Virgil) Metke, and Marion Zuelhke; sister-in-laws; Adeline Retzlaff, Margaret Meyer, and Bonnie Retzlaff, brother-in-law; Ray Voight. He is furthered survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eldine in 2012, his siblings, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.Memorials may be made in Melvin’s name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mayville, or to the charity of one’s choice. ***Special thanks for all the love, care, and respect given to Melvin at Matthews of Horicon and Agnesian Hospice and Larry Roxbury, RN..***
